I originally found this recipe from my friend @chelseahennard, and I know that my friend Kate of @my_plastic_free_home has made them too! The bars are beautiful, customizable, and so luxuriously moisturizing. I love using them on my legs after shaving.
Rather than discussing a type of plastic today, I’m discussing how plastics behave—and how we should best treat them.
I was fortunate to hear about BPA way back in 2010ish, when the “scandal” (I’ll call it) first broke. I was fresh out of undergrad and was working at part-time at a health food store, with a part-time editorial internship at a natural health magazine (alive). No surprise: I was hearing about BPA left, right, and centre. At the store, I spoke to concerned customers about it. At the magazine, I edited articles about it by science writers, which meant fact-checking everything by reading scientific articles. I was in BPA-land!
What is silicone? Is it plastic? Is it safe? Should we choose products made from it?
You may have noticed that this soft, flexible, plastic-like material is popping up everywhere from kids’ spoons and plates to baking sheets. It’s touted as our century’s wonder material!
The truth is a little complicated. In fact, I actually changed my viewpoint after I did the research for this post.
