For those who missed the fun last year, CertClean is a Canadian organization that certifies nontoxic beauty and skincare products across North America. If you see their logo on a product, you know it’s a clean, safe choice.
CertClean’s Clean Beauty Awards “celebrates the very best performing products, created with the healthiest ingredients, from around the world. Its goal is to celebrate the power of the clean, or “free from”, beauty movement.”
As a judge, I received a big box of products in the mail (my idea of Christmas morning!) and I get to test them all with various criteria in mind.
This year I’ll be judging the Face Care category, which is my personal favourite. What I’ve noticed already is the diverse range of skincare product types that exist. When I was growing up, there was cleanser and moisturizer and sometimes toner. These days, there are so many lotions and potions, with really incredible technology involved in the formulations and packaging.
I see the influence of Korean beauty in these products, which is known for being extensive, detail-focused, and methodical, with wonderful results. I love the care and intention put into skincare: rather than removing makeup with a wipe and falling into bed (which, of course, as a mom I’ve done many times), skincare routines are to be savoured and taken seriously. As a result, there can be multiple cleansers, serums, and toners, as well as products that are new to many people, including essences and micellar waters. I can’t wait to dive in and try them all.
I’ll be posting more about the Awards in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, feel free to check out the CertClean website to see what else these very cool people are up to.
